The town of Walton, in Delaware County, New York, is located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains with the headwaters of the Delaware River flowing through it. Among the earliest of the towns in Delaware County, 1797, Walton is the home of the Delaware County Fair. Running consecutively for the last 132 years, the fair brings crafts, culture and, of course, cud chewers from across the region each summer for one of the areas grandest celebrations.

Home to approximately 5600 residents, the town has an active social environment with arts, music, crafts (quilting) and of course some amazing fishing. Hunters love the wild game throughout the region and winter is almost as fun a s summer, with some spectacular snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. The Walton Central School is a U.S. News & World Report Bronze medalist for 2018. Its academics and athletics programs are the envy of many throughout the area.

Walton’s beautiful mountains, amazing food and spirits, and great entertainment make the town and surrounding area a real destination. The Historic Walton Theater is a non-profit cultural treasure at the center of town. Each season is packed with concerts, first-run movies, classic cinema and special events. And the definition of crafts extends fully to spirits and great food. Walton is home to local craft brewers and libations makers that can be found in Brooklyn’s trendiest saloons, like the Delaware Phoenix Distillery, a one-woman distillery producing exceptional bourbon from local organic grains.

The Delaware River is at the center of the town, offering some of the country’s finest fly-fishing. Just ask Brian Foster, of Reel Catskills. He can take you from newbie to novice in an hour, and you’ll be enjoying the art of back casting in no time. Tours can be arranged, and solo canoeing along the river is favorite of locals in the warmer summer months.
